El helibalde (bambi bucket) amarrado al vientre del helic\u00f3ptero golpea violentamente el mar. Las\u00a0autoridades solicitaron la asistencia de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea (FAU), Aviaci\u00f3n Naval (ANU), del\u00a0ej\u00e9rcito\u00a0y de la aviaci\u00f3n civil para combatirlos. Un nuevo foco\u00a0\u00edgneo\u00a0surgi\u00f3 en\u00a0el\u00a0cercano Parque Nacional de Santa Teresa, poniendo en peligro su fortaleza colonial del siglo 18 y sus \u00fanicos montes ind\u00edgenas. Como naci\u00f3n neutral, con reducida capacidad a\u00e9rea de defensa y ataque, Uruguay presenta una doctrina de dispersi\u00f3n de sus unidades a\u00e9reas operando en caso de ataque externo, desde remotas autopistas especialmente preparadas y marcadas para recibir aeronaves \u00a1al mejor estilo suizo o sueco!. Antes de esta resoluci\u00f3n, en la prisa por brindar asistencia, se evidenciaron algunos peligros. Los pilotos de un Wessex naval, volando a 300 pies AGL (100 m) con su helibalde pleno de agua, notaron at\u00f3nitos,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>cuando un fumigador civil les apareci\u00f3 de frente al salir por detr\u00e1s de una colina. El avi\u00f3n pas\u00f3 pocos metros debajo del pesado helic\u00f3ptero naval, en una clara \u201cair miss\u201d. Inmediatamente se determinaron, para aumentar la seguridad del vuelo, dos circuitos diferentes. (Imagen Gerardo Tajes)<\/strong><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p4\">Un turboh\u00e9lice C-212 con carga de personal de relevo y alimentos, efectuaba un perfecto aterrizaje en la ruta, girando en direcci\u00f3n opuesta en un \u00e1rea circular (<i>ceboll\u00f3n<\/i>) preparada para aeronaves de mayor porte, estilo de una cabecera de pista, al final de la misma. Al C-212 se le orden\u00f3 mantener su posici\u00f3n. El piloto de la FAU no se hizo repetir la orden, ya que al levantar su mirada hacia la direcci\u00f3n en la cual hab\u00eda aterrizado, pod\u00eda ver claramente, \u00a1cuatro fumigadores en final listos al aterrizaje! En minutos, los cuatro se hab\u00edan reabastecido con agua y estaban nuevamente en el aire. Su contribuci\u00f3n era altamente valorada ya que aviones como el Air Tractor, pod\u00edan cargar 1700 litros de agua, m\u00e1s que el doble de los helic\u00f3pteros, lanzando 55.000 litros de agua por hora. Al retornar, dos aviones al mismo tiempo tomaban tierra, hac\u00edan una breve pausa a mitad de la autopista \u2013 donde ya se encontraba un cami\u00f3n tanque de agua \u2013 rellenaban sus tolvas (tanques de agua) con motores en marcha y se lanzaban a los cielos nuevamente. (Imagen Gerardo Tajes)<\/strong><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Para mayor autonom\u00eda y tiempo en la estaci\u00f3n de combate los \u201cbambi buckets\u201d (helibaldes) se hab\u00edan ajustado para llevar 800 litros de un total de 1100. Se tiraba el agua, se retornaba al Atl\u00e1ntico para efectuar una nueva carga y regresar a la zona del incendio. As\u00ed se configuraba un padr\u00f3n de vuelo circular, titulado como \u201cla calesita\u201d por los pilotos marinos. Cada circuito duraba de 3 a 5 minutos, y en una hora un Wessex podr\u00eda realizar 16 despidos (una dotaci\u00f3n naval logr\u00f3 37 en 1:40 horas de vuelo).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Las t\u00e9cnicas de lanzamiento de agua depend\u00edan de que tan grande \u00e1rea se deseara cubrir. Por ejemplo: en vuelo estacionario del helic\u00f3ptero el flujo de agua lanzado ser\u00eda de mayor caudal en un menor espacio, en cuanto que uno con movimiento horizontal de la nave envolver\u00eda una superficie m\u00e1s amplia. Eucaliptos y pinos \u2013 con sus pi\u00f1as incandescentes y explosivas \u2013 en llamas podr\u00edan volar como misiles en la vertical y explotar delante de las aeronaves. Turbulencia mec\u00e1nica y din\u00e1mica \u2013 forjada por las altas temperaturas de los fuegos \u2013<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>era otro problema. Con los incendios controlados el aire sobre las bellas dunas de arena ol\u00eda a madera quemada. Como silenciosa manifestante, la ruta 9 manten\u00eda en su vientre a dos Wessex estacionados, con sus rotores callados. Las tripulaciones civiles ya hab\u00edan reanudado la fumigaci\u00f3n de la cosecha de arroz; las militares retornaron a sus bases, con varias lecciones aprendidas y la mirada en el futuro. EL personal de la FAU tal vez pensando cuando llegar\u00eda su \u201ctour\u201d de Naciones Unidas en Eritrea o Ant\u00e1rtida,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>las navales cuando seria su hora de dejar alto el nombre de Uruguay sirviendo en Hait\u00ed o el Congo o la pr\u00f3xima misi\u00f3n SAR sobre el R\u00edo de la Plata o el Atl\u00e1ntico.
