Dentro de mi pesado casco de vuelo, una oportuna advertencia suena bajo los auriculares:\u00a0<strong>\u201cOjo las manos\u201d<\/strong>. La voz proveniente del asiento izquierdo es de mi piloto, el Tte. 1ro. En la parte central de la cabina, a la derecha de la mira de tiro CA-511, se observa el soporte para un GPS removible. Recientemente las cabinas han sido adaptadas para la operaci\u00f3n con lentes de visi\u00f3n nocturna. (Copyright Ernesto Blanco Calcagno\/Airpressman.com)<\/span><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Bajo ambos visores del casco (transparente y oscuro),<\/span>\u00a0ajusto las trabas met\u00e1licas laterales de la mascara de oxigeno y mentalizo los movimientos en caso de eyecci\u00f3n:\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cCodos adentro, piernas hacia atr\u00e1s, espalda derecha, ment\u00f3n adentro, palanca de eyecci\u00f3n arriba, activo y oprimo el gatillo\u201d.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 De acuerdo al llamado \u00a0<strong>\u201c<\/strong><i><strong>gui\u00f3n uno\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/i>(Manual de Vuelo del Piloto \u2013 or T.O. 1A-37B-1) en 0,21 de segundo sentir\u00eda una fuerte r\u00e1faga de viento y un paraca\u00eddas o especie de\u00a0<i>champignon\u00a0<\/i>gigante se abrir\u00eda sobre m\u00ed, al separarse el asiento eyectable de mi trasero. Por supuesto que anterior a esta acci\u00f3n, la c\u00fapula de cabina deber\u00eda eyectarse y la aeronave alcanzar una velocidad y altitud suficiente, aclararemos mas tarde. El tubo de la conexi\u00f3n de abastecimiento a\u00e9reo en la nariz del avi\u00f3n o\u00a0<em>\u201cair refueling probe\u201d<\/em>, establecido sobre el centro de la pista indica el camino a seguir. Vicente aplica potencia militar (100%) suelta los frenos y el monstruo comienza a desplazarse sobre el\u00a0c\u00e1lido\u00a0hormig\u00f3n. Las toberas de ventilaci\u00f3n de la cabina, nos brindan la combinaci\u00f3n de aromas tan particular de aeronaves militares: mezcla de vapores del combustible JP-4, aluminio, goma, tefl\u00f3n, plexigl\u00e1s, impregnando nuestras narinas y monos de vuelo. Una mirada a los indicadores de los motores indica que todo\u00a0est\u00e1\u00a0en orden y seguiremos con el decolaje. Vicente habr\u00eda notado los\u00a0par\u00e1metros, pero mi anuncio de:\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cTodo en verde\u201d<\/strong><\/em> reforz\u00f3 el hecho que lo asist\u00eda en el monitoreo de los motores. Esta pr\u00e1ctica, era com\u00fan en vuelos de formaci\u00f3n, cuando nuestros pilotos llevaban a alg\u00fan mec\u00e1nico de \u201cbolsa\u201d (parte de la tripulaci\u00f3n pero sin tarea espec\u00edfica asignada) solicitando que observaran las indicaciones de los J-85, en cuanto ellos manten\u00edan su vista pegada en el l\u00edder o ladero. Vicente aplica \u201cpalonniers\u201d delicadamente manteniendo el tren de nariz, v\u00eda el control de steering, sobre el centro de la pista. (Copyright Ernesto Blanco Calcagno\/Airpressman.com)<\/span><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">En esas \u00e9pocas\u00a0ten\u00edamos\u00a0 inconvenientes con la planta propulsora del avi\u00f3n que frecuentemente\u00a0<strong><em>\u201centraba en\u00a0p\u00e9rdida\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(<em>stall<\/em>\u00a0en\u00a0ingl\u00e9s) en vuelo. La condici\u00f3n de \u201cstall\u201d del compresor en un motor a reacci\u00f3n puede suceder por diversos motivos: compresor sucio, ingesti\u00f3n de aire caliente al compresor \u2013 proveniente de gases de escape de otra aeronave durante vuelo en formaci\u00f3n \u2013 maniobras abruptas, ingesti\u00f3n de objetos extra\u00f1os etc. Esta falla se manifiesta por un alto\u00a0<i>bang<\/i>\u00a0, seguida por una\u00a0p\u00e9rdida\u00a0abrupta de empuje, reducci\u00f3n de RPM y aumento de la temperatura del gas de escape del\u00a0motor, obviamente una situaci\u00f3n altamente indeseable (Conoc\u00eda bien la situaci\u00f3n al haberla vivido en vuelos anteriores).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Para minimizar la probabilidad de ocurrencia de estas fallas, frecuentemente lav\u00e1bamos los motores con una mezcla de agua y un producto l\u00edquido qu\u00edmico llamado\u00a0<strong><em>\u201cRust Lick\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(Lame Herrumbre\u2026.que nombres inventan los \u201cgringos\u201d!). Este se rociaba, desde un porr\u00f3n a presi\u00f3n, por la parte frontal al interior del motor , hacia su compresor axial, en cuanto el General Electric giraba, \u201cen seco\u201d (sin arrancar, o sea bajo la torsi\u00f3n proporcionada por su combinado motor de arranque-generador y<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>sin adici\u00f3n de combustible). Nos tocaba ahora, durante el vuelo de prueba de cerciorarnos de la eficaz marcha del motor\u00a0reemplazado\u00a0por una serie de comprobaciones preestablecidas. Estos frecuentemente utilizan el\u00a0<strong>VOR de Durazno (DUR)<\/strong>\u00a0instalado en nuestra base, formando parte una transitada aerov\u00eda\u00a0conectando el sur de\u00a0Brasil con Buenos Aires.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><strong><em>\u201cFuerza A\u00e9rea 272 es un alfa tres siete\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>responde Vicente. Al escuchar esas palabras, desde los 12.000 (3657.6 mt) con la mejor vista de mi pa\u00eds desde su avi\u00f3n m\u00e1s poderoso, me llenaba de orgullo y \u201csacaba pecho\u201d por debajo del arn\u00e9s del paraca\u00eddas. (Copyright Ernesto Blanco Calcagno\/Airpressman.com)<\/span><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">Vicente reduce la velocidad a 180 nudos, estabiliza la potencia ambas plantas de poder a 85% y me informa que estar\u00eda apagando el motor izquierdo y comenzando las comprobaciones.\u00a0 Palanca de potencia izquierda toda atr\u00e1s hasta el tope, un cent\u00edmetro hacia arriba y toda atr\u00e1s a la posici\u00f3n\u00a0<strong><em>CUT-OFF:<\/em><\/strong><i><strong>\u201cShuuuummmm\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/i>El jet pasa su energ\u00eda cin\u00e9tica a potencial en pocos segundos. (Imagen cortes\u00eda de Pilotoviejo)<\/span><\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\">El empuje asim\u00e9trico y el consecuente\u00a0<em>\u201ccabeceo\u201d<\/em>de la aeronave, es corregido por la bota de Vicente presionando delicadamente el pedal del tim\u00f3n derecho, y la comprobaci\u00f3n visual, v\u00eda los instrumentos de motor de que realmente el \u201cmonstruo\u201d dorm\u00eda. La unidad de control de combustible (FCU) env\u00eda el JP-4 a trav\u00e9s de inyectores que atomizan el combustible dentro de la c\u00e1mara de combusti\u00f3n. Entretanto el \u00edndice izquierdo de Vicente inicia el\u00a0cron\u00f3metro, para observar el tiempo\u00a0de arranque. Para regular la admisi\u00f3n del aire el J-85 se dise\u00f1\u00f3 con\u00a0\u00e1labes\u00a0fijos de geometr\u00eda variables o\u00a0<em><strong>IGV \u2013 Inlet Guide Vanes<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0por su sigla en\u00a0ingl\u00e9s.\u00a0Esta especie de gu\u00edas fijas, parten desde el cono (o\u00a0<i>spinner<\/i>) c\u00e9ntrico, estando abisagradas en su parte posterior, movi\u00e9ndose de manera similar a un tim\u00f3n de direcci\u00f3n, aumentando o disminuyendo el pasaje del flujo de aire de acuerdo a la demanda de aire del compresor. Las IGV a su vez reciben informaci\u00f3n de las v\u00e1lvulas de sangrado de aire del compresor (<i>bleed air valves<\/i>) a trav\u00e9s del\u00a0<em><strong>FCU (fuel control unit \u2013 unidad de control de combustible)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0al registrar sus sensores cambios en el flujo de combustible \u2013 directamente proporcional a la necesidad de aire. En ascenso la inercia es reticente a que continuemos en la trayectoria inicial hacia el suelo, mi m\u00e1scara de ox\u00edgeno desciende sobre mis estiradas mejillas. Siguen dos rolls verticales, vuelo invertido, indicador de actitud (horizonte artificial) girando como un trompo! La misma es audible cuando la potencia se encuentra por debajo de 60% \u2013 record\u00e1ndole al piloto que debe bajar el tren de aterrizaje.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Nos alejamos brevemente y regresamos a casa para una ruptura t\u00e1ctica (<em>break<\/em>) sobre el aer\u00f3dromo y giramos 180 grados hacia la inicial.\u00a0<em><strong>\u201cParallada FAU 272, tren abajo, asegurado, flaps\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0indica Vicente prestes a aterrizar.\u00a0En cuanto\u00a0los motores de 272\u00a0se aceleran para mantener altura y velocidad por arriba de los 120 nudos en el circuito de aterrizaje, tres aerot\u00e9cnicos<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>observan al avi\u00f3n retornando a su cuidado.
