Entretanto, durante esta campa\u00f1a, se present\u00f3 una situaci\u00f3n poco com\u00fan, ya que la <strong>Fuerza A\u00e9rea Argentina (FAA) solicit\u00f3 el apoyo a su hom\u00f3loga uruguaya para realizar traslado de carga desde R\u00edo Gallegos (RGL\/SAWG) hacia Marambio (MBO\/SAWB)<\/strong>. Este cuatrimotor turboh\u00e9lice de construcci\u00f3n estadounidense, pertenece al <strong>Escuadr\u00f3n A\u00e9reo No. 3 (Transporte)<\/strong> con base en la Brigada A\u00e9rea I, adyacente al aeropuerto internacional Gral. Ces\u00e1reo L. Dicha estaci\u00f3n a\u00e9rea, forma parte de la base ant\u00e1rtica chilena Eduardo Frey. Para llegar a Marsh desde Montevideo, la ruta del FAU 591 fue a trav\u00e9s de Mar del Plata, Viedma y Comodoro Rivadavia (an Argentina) para luego llegar a Punta Arenas, en un total de cinco horas de vuelo.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\"> En el aer\u00f3dromo chileno la tripulaci\u00f3n y aeronave pernoctan, pero contin\u00faan las tareas ya que la cabina de carga de la aeronave es reconfigurada para el cruce de 2,5 horas hacia Marsh. <strong>El abastecimiento a la BCAA es un esfuerzo militar conjunto,<\/strong> ya que tambi\u00e9n es apoyado por la <strong>Armada Nacional Uruguaya<\/strong>; este a\u00f1o la tarea fue asignada al buque de <strong>Comando y Control ROU 04 \u201cArtigas\u201d,<\/strong> que particip\u00f3 de la misi\u00f3n Antarkos XXXIV, trasladando 105 toneladas de carga y 226.000 litros de gas oil ant\u00e1rtico. (Ph.: Escuadr\u00f3n 3)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Antes de cada cruce hacia el continente blanco, se analizan cuidadosamente las condiciones meteorol\u00f3gicas en ruta y destino. Por sus caracter\u00edsticas peculiares, las operaciones en la pista sub-standard\/no preparada de Marsh es at\u00edpica y requieren un m\u00e1ximo esfuerzo del C-130, tanto en el aterrizaje como el despegue. Debe considerarse la posibilidad de realizar un aterrizaje de emergencia, y analizar detalladamente los TAF\/METAR y el SNOWTAM, (NOTAM que describe las condiciones de nieve en los aer\u00f3dromos) generalmente poco utilizado en Uruguay. (Ph.: Escuadr\u00f3n 3)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-asistencia-de-emergencia-destino-bam-marambio\">Asistencia de emergencia &#8211; Destino: BAM Marambio<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\">Es entonces que se inicia la <strong>misi\u00f3n de asistencia a la hermana fuerza a\u00e9rea<\/strong>; el vuelo del FAU 591 desde Punta Arenas hacia R\u00edo Gallegos fue de unos breves 20 minutos; partiendo desde dicho aer\u00f3dromo del sur argentino con destino a Marambio, a las 13:05 hora local (16:05 GMT).&nbsp; Fuentes argentinas informan que se trasladaron 24 barriles de 200 litros de gas oil ant\u00e1rtico (4800 litros en total, combustible apto para motores de ciclo diesel), as\u00ed como materiales de urgente necesidad en un corto plazo en Marambio. La duraci\u00f3n de vuelo entre ambas localidades fue de 03:15 horas, tanto de ida como de vuelta. FAA)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Los H\u00e9rcules de la FAA, prestan servicio en el Grupo I de Transporte A\u00e9reo, basado en la I Brigada A\u00e9rea de El Palomar, Provincia de Buenos Aires. De un <strong>total de 16 aeronaves que se obtuvieron a partir de 1968 <\/strong>en la actualidad s\u00f3lo seis permanecen operativas:<strong> tres C-130H-382C-48D (numerales TC-61\/64\/66), dos KC-130H-382-82D (TC-69\/70) as\u00ed como un L-100-382G-53C (TC-100)<\/strong>. Este \u00faltimo modelo civil, no es apto para operaciones ant\u00e1rticas, por su fuselaje largo y ser incapaz de realizar aterrizajes t\u00e1cticos requeridos en Marambio (su pista de aterrizaje de ripio, es de 1260 x 35 metros). Dicho aparato reemplaz\u00f3 al TC-63 perdido durante el conflicto del Atl\u00e1ntico Sur en 1982, y fue obtenido en momentos luego de dicha guerra, en que la FAA no pod\u00eda adquirir este tipo de aeronave militar en el mercado internacional. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\">Asimismo si nos desplazamos a Julio de 2020, se han llevado a cabo sendas modernizaciones en el <strong>TC-69, TC-70, TC 61, y TC-66<\/strong> que continuar\u00e1n siendo realizadas en el resto de la flota de C-130. La primer aeronave a ser modificada fue el <strong>TC-69<\/strong>, un <strong>KC-130H veterano de Malvinas,<\/strong> trasladado a Waco, Texas (EUA), donde permaneci\u00f3 por 18 meses. Los trabajos fueron realizados por la firma L-3 y su filial Platform Integration, que incluyeron la incorporaci\u00f3n nuevos <em>pods <\/em>de reabastecimiento a\u00e9reo de combustible (REVO) ya que los KC-130H son aviones cisterna capaces de abastecer combustible a otras aeronaves en vuelo. La principal modificaci\u00f3n fue la instalaci\u00f3n de un Sistema Integrado de Avi\u00f3nica digital  <em>(Integrated Avionics System<\/em>) Flight 2 de Rockwell Collins el cual provee un panel de instrumentos con cinco pantallas multifunci\u00f3n (EIDS &#8211; <em>Electronic Information Delivery System<\/em>\/Sistema Electr\u00f3nico de Entrega de Informaci\u00f3n) cada una de ellas de 5 x 8 pulgadas (12,7 x 20,32 cm), tres CDU-7000 FMS (<em>Computer Display Units<\/em>\/Unidades de Visualizaci\u00f3n de Computadora y Sistema de Gesti\u00f3n de Vuelo asociado\/FMS-<em>Flight Management System<\/em>), equipos de comunicaci\u00f3n satelital, radar de \u00faltima generaci\u00f3n APN-241, instalaci\u00f3n de visi\u00f3n electro \u00f3ptica e infrarroja (FLIR) &#8211; solamente para los dos KC-130H &#8211; sistema digital de indicaci\u00f3n de combustible y electr\u00f3nico para el control de h\u00e9lices. El contrato por USD 75 millones con la firma L-3 fue realizado a trav\u00e9s del <strong>Sistema de Ventas Militares al Exterior (FMS &#8211; <em>Foreign Military Sales<\/em>)<\/strong> de la US <em>Air Force<\/em>. Dicho contrato (LOA &#8211; <em>Letter of Agreement<\/em>\/Carta de Acuerdo) incluy\u00f3 la modernizaci\u00f3n del ya mencionado TC-69 adem\u00e1s de la entrega de <strong>cinco kits de upgrades para las aeronaves restantes,<\/strong> un simulador de vuelo, documentaci\u00f3n, manuales y entrenamiento al personal t\u00e9cnico. La instalaci\u00f3n de los kits y el resto de las tareas de modernizaci\u00f3n mencionadas anteriormente fueron realizadas en C\u00f3rdoba, Argentina por <strong>FAdeA (F\u00e1brica Argentina de Aviones Brigadier San Mart\u00edn) <\/strong>con el apoyo de L3. De hecho la modernizaci\u00f3n del TC-61 &#8211; segunda aeronave modificada &#8211; realizada por FAdeA, culmin\u00f3 en junio de 2017 con la aeronave entregada al Grupo I de El Palomar. En segundo plano, el FAU 591 se apresta a volar a la BAM Marambio. (Ph.: Escuadr\u00f3n 3)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background\"><strong>Al momento del pedido de asistencia por la FAA a la FAU, el TC-69 modernizado en EUA, sufri\u00f3 serios inconvenientes el 2 de diciembre de 2017<\/strong>, al no poder concretar un aterrizaje en Marambio debido a la situaci\u00f3n meteorol\u00f3gica, debiendo retornar a R\u00edo Gallegos. Al aterrizar, una falla en su sistema digital Flight 2 (instalado en EUA durante la mencionada modernizaci\u00f3n) gener\u00f3 que los motores de la aeronave permanecieran con exceso de potencia aplicada, por lo que para rectificar la situaci\u00f3n, la tripulaci\u00f3n debi\u00f3 apagar los cuatro motores y aplicar frenado de emergencia. Esta acci\u00f3n, que evit\u00f3 un posible accidente o situaci\u00f3n de mayor riesgo, caus\u00f3 un incendio y da\u00f1os varios en la zona del tren de aterrizaje principal. La empresa L-3 emiti\u00f3 entonces una prohibici\u00f3n de vuelo a nivel global a todas las aeronaves modificadas, hasta el t\u00e9rmino de investigaciones a efectos de averiguar el motivo del problema. Por este motivo <strong>el TC-61 ya modernizado, debi\u00f3 permanecer en tierra en R\u00edo Gallegos y disponible para volar hacia Marambio, solamente en caso de que sucediera una emergencia en la base ant\u00e1rtica.<\/strong> El resto de los H\u00e9rcules de la FAA permanec\u00edan fuera de orden de vuelo por diversos motivos; por ejemplo el TC-64 habiendo ingresado a inspecci\u00f3n de mantenimiento, aproximadamente una semana antes del incidente con el TC-69. (Ph.: FAU)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\">Entretanto <strong>la flota de C-130B uruguaya contin\u00faa sus operaciones; el FAU 592 (c\/n 282-3596, ex USAF 60-0295, con alta en la FAU el 18 de agosto de 1992)<\/strong>, fue destacado en el 2020, casi que diariamente en los noticieros uruguayos durante la pandemia por el <strong>Covid-19,<\/strong>  realizando varios vuelos de repatriaci\u00f3n a varios puntos geogr\u00e1ficos de la regi\u00f3n; algunos tan lejanos como Guyana y Venezuela, demandando <strong>misiones de hasta 33 horas de duraci\u00f3n<\/strong>.  Una inspecci\u00f3n de mantenimiento mayor &#8211; generalmente realizada cada 5 a\u00f1os &#8211; llamada <strong>Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM)<\/strong> se llev\u00f3 a cabo al 592, durante 2018 en los talleres de la empresa Digex en S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 dos Campos, estado de S\u00e3o Paulo, Brasil. El FAU 591 aguarda fondos para una futura PDM. Fuentes uruguayas indican que a esta aeronave se le instalar\u00eda un nuevo piloto autom\u00e1tico &#8211; a\u00fan por ser seleccionado &#8211; para reemplazar el actual modelo E4, adem\u00e1s de un Garmin GPS GTN 650, sistema TCAS II (<em>Traffic  Alert and Collision Avoidance System<\/em>\/Sistema de Alerta y Anti Colisi\u00f3n de Tr\u00e1fico, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). (Ph.: FAU)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-dark-gray-color has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background\">Recientemente el <strong>Cnel (R) Rivera Elgue y actual subdirector del Ministerio de Defensa Uruguayo<\/strong>, mencion\u00f3 que el pa\u00eds se encuentra en tratativas para obtener dos <strong>H\u00e9rcules C-130H provenientes del Ej\u00e9rcito del Aire espa\u00f1ol<\/strong> <strong>que estar\u00edan siendo dados de baja a fin del 2020.<\/strong> De diez aeronaves espa\u00f1olas disponibles para adquisici\u00f3n &#8211; cinco son KC-130H (cisterna), uno es modelo C-130H-30 con fuselaje de 4.57 metros de mayor longitud que el resto &#8211;  poseen muchas horas remanentes de operaci\u00f3n,  cuentan con sistemas de protecci\u00f3n al standard de la OTAN y avi\u00f3nica modernizada certificada por el fabricante Lockheed Martin.
